Today we tried out this site named SumoPaint, this is what I made.
I am a student at Taipa Area School in the Far North of New Zealand. This is a place where I share my learning.

OUR END OF YEAR TRIP!!
END OF YEAR TRIP!!
As you may have guessed, for are end of year trip we went to Action World. Our trip - although the drive was long and tiresome - was extremely successful, and I didn't see a single unhappy face all day. The attractions caused adrenaline to pulse through my veins, the lunch tasted like restaurant food instead of a private BBQ, and the feeling of finishing an obstacle was unbeatable. I really couldn't have asked for a better end of year trip.

On Wednesday we have our Market Day, which is where some of our students have stalls and sell different products, this is like an early business class. On Thursday we are going to Action World in Paihia for the whole day. Then on Friday we have a Tikanga presentation. So we have a very full on week - and the next week isn't any less busy!!

Plastic in the Ocean and How To Help
WALT Write an explanation about plastic in the ocean.
My favourite part of writing this was the last sentence, So all in all, there is no good thing about plastic. I liked this most because it felt good to finish the story off.

A Scene From The Honest Truth
This is a bit of the story 'The Honest Truth' that I really enjoyed. Mark is thinking of all the good people he had met on his journey, while heading home down the mountain.

My Talent Show Act

For the Talent Show I put together a gymnastics/dance routine. I started off big with a front kick and pin followed by a split jump, I then did a little dance before doing a backward walkover to stand. It had taken me a while to decide what music, and then of course the time it took to put the routine together. But overall I think I did reasonably well for all the time it took! Plus I gut a bag of Picnics which is a big bonus!
The Talent Show
At the Talent Show, a whole group of us Intermediate kids did a glow stick dance. Watch the whole thing below.
Robotics Short Course
In intermediate, we have one class three times a week called Short Course.
However this class is very special because we get to choose it.
We are given the option between multiple different classes such as Wood Work, Marketing, Art, Robotics and many more interesting subjects.
These classes change every term so we have an extremely wide variety of choice.
For my Term 2 Short Course I chose Robotics.

In this Short Course we were given a remote control car with no batteries or remote, we were then told how to connect all the wires with this silvery stuff that we melted and then used like hot glue.

This proved to be much more difficult than any of us would have guessed.
By the end of the term must of had a working remote controlled car.

How Maui Slowed The Sun
Our story starts in the days of the old, when we used the stars to navigate instead of our phones GPS. When they had to go fishing and hunting for food rather than drive down to the local Pak’n’save. Imagine now, you’re a Maori citizen going about the town with a long list of chores in need of completing. Now think how annoying it would be if suddenly, it was pitch black. How would you feel? What would you do? Well one man was anything but happy…
One regular day, no different from any other, Maui the strong leader of the tribe, had just finished making a hangi for him and his brothers to share. No sooner had he removed the kai from the large pit, the sun had disappeared into his pit in which he slept for hours upon hours. Nobody knows exactly what Maui said but I imagine it included a few swear words, for the sun had only just risen an hour ago!
Whilst the sun slept peacefully in his pit, Maui and his brothers sat in the cold. Apart from the fire, it was pitch black. Maui called all his people over (No not on his cellphone, he just yelled really, really loud). “The lazy sun must be taught a lesson.” Maui declared. “Yes but how?” Replied one of the townspeople. “We shall make enchanted flax ropes and then my brothers and I will travel to the sun pit where the sun will be taught a lesson. The townspeople still thought it impossible but after being reminded of all that Maui had done, agreed that it had to be done.
For days they worked on the flax ropes, Maui leading them step by step glad that he had picked up the skill on one of his many adventures. Atlast, on the fifth day, the ropes were finished (Although if you think about it the days were still really short so it wasn’t actually that long). Maui and his brothers set off on the long journey ahead of them. Stealthily, the brothers only travelled in the night, so as to be sure the sun wouldn’t see them coming. They travelled over mountains, through lakes and under the low hanging branches of the woods.
Finally after twelve days (but once again, the days were short so it can’t of been that long) they reached the sun pit. Strangely, on the way Maui had made them all carry water in calabashes and refused to answer any of their questions of why they had to bring the water. Their questions were answered when Maui poured the water on the hard clay surrounding the pit. He then called his brothers over to help him build a wall separating them from the sun, so as to protect them from burning to a crisp when the sun arose (No Maui’s not Donald Trump).
Unsurprisingly, a couple of the brothers chickened out and tried to slip away, but Maui had a keen eyesight and told his brothers “Behind the wall you are safe, but if you run away you will most likely be the first to die.” The brothers walked back to the others ashamed of themselves. Suddenly the pit glowed as the sun arose from his resting place. However maui had fastened a massive nook to the pit and the sun was immediately trapped. Maui instructed his brothers to pull the ropes before the sun escaped, but they were frozen stiff with fear. Luckily, the brothers eventually snapped out of it and pulled the rope crushing the sun half to death.
Maui then approached the sun and hit him twice with his magic jawbone. The sun repeatedly asked what he’d done to deserve this. Maui told him “You must slow down as you go across the sky, my people and I have much to do and we need more time to do it!” The sun whimpered and gave in. Maui the released the sun and he crept slowly across the sky. Maui and his brothers then returned the people and from then on out they lived long fun-filled days.

BEES
1a: What if bees were as big as cats.
We may have more oxygen.
The flowers may grow larger than usual.
1b: Imagine your dad went to work with a jar of live bees on his head, write two paragraphs why he would do this?
Every day my dad goes off to work with a jar of live bees on his head. I guess he may have decided that if bees produce oxygen he will never run out. Or maybe he read how bees scientifically shouldn’t be able to fly but did it anyway, and is trying to increase his ego levels.
Every day my dad goes off to work with a jar of live bees on his head. I guess he was having troubles at work and heard that bees think out of the box, and was trying to get some new ideas. Or perhaps he was simply trying to improve his balance.
1c: Imagine there was a law against killing bees, write down the positives and negatives of this.
Bees could produce more
Bees could produce more oxygen
Bees would not be allowed to sting us.
Most bees death are basically suicidal.
Humans cannot be to blame for a bees death unless they purposely stood on it.
Bees probably wouldn’t increase in population as spider, pray mantises, and wasps are always out to get them.
1d:Name ten things a bee has in common with a refrigerator.
1. Bees are cold blooded and a refrigerator is cold.
2. Both have 4 legs.
3. Both have a body.
4. Both can produce
5. Both buzz.
6. Both can be small or big.
7. Both get cold.
8. Both have a creator.
9. Both help keep plants fresh.
10. Both can vary in colour.
1e:What would happen if there were no bees?
No
No oxygen. (The pollen they collect from the flowers is used to help the trees and plants grow, and that is how we gain oxygen)
No flowers.
No fruit. (If the trees and plants die we will have no fruit)
No animals. (If the fruits and plants die the animals will starve)
No animal skins and wool. (If the animals die we cannot gain the wool and skins)
No clothes. (Clothes are commonly created from animal products meaning we will be left in the nude)
No dignity. (No clothes no dignity, no bees no dignity, simple as that)
1f: Imagine you were as small as a bee, write down five thing you may feel or do.
I would feel threatened by the smallest human.
This is what a flower looks like to a bee.
I would need much less resources.
I COULD FLY!
There would be no seats my size.
The Bronze Jump
Thump, thump, thump! My heart was beating so fast and furiously I thought it might fly out of my mouth.
I lunged down low reminding myself of the steps, sprint, launch, scissor kick, both feet land.
I started the curvy run to the bar, I leapt from foot to foot till the bar was so close I could see the sun
painting glistening patterns on the deep sea blue.
With the top three on the line I kicked my legs up as high as they would go and landed on the other side
of the bar as gracefully as an elephant. “Well at least I made the jump.” I told myself.
So far there were five left and I planned on making the top three if that meant bruising my eyes
with my legs.
While I stood staring at the bar, I realised it was over half the size of me, probably three quarters!
My heart was no longer beating as it had long ago fled as I knew I should.
But the thought of making this jump forced my legs down into lunge and I forced my legs and arms
to work together to propel me towards the bar…
I knew that by doing the jump I was basically asking for failure, but I was proud to have made it so far.
Even if I may not have made the top three. At least I got one of my leg over unlike others that took
one look at the bar and ran straight past it.
As the high jump came to an end, I listened as we were told the overall scores.
I crossed my fingers, and waited, and waited, seconds felt like hours as I heard the words ‘Third place’
followed by my name! I was overjoyed! I had never come in the top three for high jump and the first time
I have, it’s against year sevens and eights!
That day I gained more self confidence and feeling of self accomplishment, and I can tell you now
that it feels as good as good can get. One cannot feel fully whole without self confidence and the feeling
of self accomplishment. That is a life lesson worth learning.
